Senior Analyst Programmer - Learning Management Systems
These systems will incorporate leading edge 3rd party products such as; Blackboard/WebCT CE 6 (formerly WebCT) - which is a technology that provides academic staff with an internet based framework in which to situate unit study materials and a variety of tools with which to manage communication and interaction with and among students. LMS also supports the use of additional learning technologies, including LECTOPIA - Lectures Online.
Whilst a knowledge of these applications is not essential it would certainly be an advantage.
Primary Objectives:
To provide technology leadership and continued growth and development of our Learning Management Systems and other business systems and applications that currently support the operational requirements of the business.
This will include liaison with other areas of IT regarding policy, procedures and technical advice as well as the business user community.
You will lead the formulation of proposals and co-ordinate the agreement for change or development of business systems and applications such as LMS and related technologies. This will include leading the formulation of innovative approaches to solve or address problems or issues, advise and influence the establishment of priorities, programs of work and reset priorities or resources within the overall program objectives of business systems and applications.
Independently use the software tools, in conjunction with the governing methodology and documented work practices, analyse, design, build, test, document and implement new and more effective software business solutions.
Provide expert advice to and liaise with managers and the Business Analysts within the development group, together with key business representatives and/or subject matter experts, to determine comprehensive and accurate business requirements.
Ensure all work practices are performed in accordance with the governing IT methodologies, procedures and processes within the group and actively participate in the collective team process.
This includes offering guidance and mentorship to other junior staff members on both levels of technology and process within the team. To do this effectively you must have excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills with an aptitude for team leadership.
Essential Requirements
# A relevant tertiary qualification with at least 5 years of practical experience in a similar IT environment, or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
# You will be expected to work independently without supervision and perform the duties and assume responsibilities as outlined above, whilst operating in a leadership capacity.
# Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of technologies including both use and administration of: MySQL; PostgreSQL; Eclipse; PHP; Java and other web related tools and technologies.
# Demonstrated experience and competence working with the Windows and Unix operating systems.
# A thorough understanding of the disciplines, principles and methodologies associated with the end to end Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
# Demonstrated Review/Quality Assurance skills, particularly code review experience
Desirable Attributes
An understanding of the higher education sector would be an advantage and exposure to, or knowledge of, Learning Management Systems and associated technologies such Blackboard/WebCT CE 6, LECTOPIA (On-line lectures), TURNITIN (Anti plagiarism software).
